Sustainability in the workplace

Local businesses looking to inspire their employees to get on board with a sustainable workplace need not look past the doors of McMaster Innovation Park.

Next week, Sustainable Hamilton Burlington is bringing in experts to talk sustainable companies to local organizations.

On the agenda are president of the Sustainability Learning Centre Kathryn Cooper and Refocus educator Joel Hilchey as the keynote speakers.

Afterward, Mountain Equipment Co-op’s sustainability committee leader Martin Harezga, director of McCallum Sather Architects Joanne McCallum and Crystal Vella of Walker Emulsions are taking part in an interactive session to discuss real-life cases of companies engaging their employees in sustainable thinking.

There are many local examples of businesses striving for this organizational change, including ones Sustainable Hamilton Burlington has recognized.

In June, the non-profit handed out sustainable innovation awards at their third annual event to one Hamilton-based company and another based out of Burlington.

Benefact and Walker Emulsions were both recognized for coming up with a new sustainability-driven product.

Inspiring Organizational Change for Sustainability will begin at 8 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. on Jan. 21, with lunch provided.
