It’s holiday time in Hamilton

coverdecIt may not be Christmas in Compton, but the holiday season has hit the Hammer.

For this month’s Hamilton Business cover story, I took a trip around town to see how your holidays really can be made in Hamilton.

First stop: Merry Farms in Lynden (yes, their family name really is Merry).

Next on the list was Emerald Street North where 9 million (!!!!) candy canes are made for your eating pleasure each year.

Having to make that many means the workers at Karma Candy have Christmas on the brain before Hallowe’en, summer holidays — even before Easter — are over.

On my hunt I also found products commemorating this city for the real Hamilton lover on your Christmas list. This city has everything, from treats for local foodies, to dirty bricks for those who relish in Hamilton’s true grit, to candles commemorating a couple of Hamilton’s make-out spots.

Of course there are many other products — Hamilton is Home t-shirts from Sexton in the City, shirts letting you know You Can Do Anything in Hamilton at the James North General Store and others showcasing Hamilton neighbourhoods Beasley & Central & Corktown & Durand at Girl on the Wing.

This Hamilton Business story and others from this month’s issue can be found on thespec.com. We also plan to blog in between editions, so check back to this site to stay up to date.

If you have story ideas, send them to npaddon@thespec.com. We love to get tipped off to all things Hamilton (including more products if we’ve missed them!)
